Oh, my gracious sakes, it looks like The Kendall Cafe is closing. So many Betty memories dripping down the walls there... this is the site of the first Beth Boucher Band gig, the place where many friends were made, many loves launched and lost, many musical moments shared. Chris Cameron, Leah Strauss, Jason Ritt, Mark Theriault, Pete Philis, Tim Griffin, John Kerr, Nolan McElvey, Charles Jones, Lauren Moffa, Jay Rothschild, Russell Mofsky, Shake, Jim Infantino, Deb Talan, Kim Richey, Shiner Jones, Melissa Morris, Ari, Jeff Kauppi, Erin Harpe, Winterboy, Chris from the SpinDoctors, Danielle Miraglia, Daniel Barrett, the list goes on and on... My deepest thanks to Leanne Scott who has been the excellent booker for several years. The Kendall will be sorely missed. Please, someone out there, buy it and keep local music fueled in this great joint.
All that said, this Friday looks like Betty's last Kendall gig, so let's RIP IT UP!

Upon her return from New York, Beth awakened the band from their sleeping-pods. She fed them warm milk and oats, and played soft lullabies to help them recover from their late summer rest. After shedding his grogginess, Jeff said, "Say, Beth, can we play at the Kendall tomorrow night?"
Beth said, "Let's do just that."

Gather round, peanuts, and perk up your ears, for this week, under cover of darkness, Beth Boucher travels to the city known as "New York," in a small hatchback, wearing $17 shoes and clothing that's had several owners, accompanied by the smell of fry-o-lator grease, to release dark yet silly songs from her guitar and head and throat...

Betty just got back from California... a terrific trip, punctuated by gorgeous weather, delicious wine, beautiful colors, great people...back into the moist oven that is Boston this week... but hey, at least we didn't have a blackout! Regards to those poor blokes who were fanless yesterday...yikes.
Next show!
Thursday, 8/21/03
The Kendall Cafe

Cambridge, MA
Betty is joined by the fabulous Andrew Doolittle, as she opens for Bill Deasy

Here's what Paste Magazine said about "Mess You Up" (current issue #5):
"Beth Boucher's debut sounds as confident as anything released by Mary Chapin Carpenter or Shawn Colvin over their long careers. The ebullient New Englander offers clever lyrics and smart arrangements to go with her friendly, bouncy voice....This album will get tagged "folk," but don't believe it--it's pure pop, and a pleasure." - Pamela Murray Winters

On Saturday, 9/6, Betty will be playing a NEMO showcase at the Kendall Cafe.... this'll be a great show... w/ the fabulous Flynn, others!

7.28.03
Be part of a live TV audience...

Upcoming shows:
Saturday, August 9th
Toad, 1920 Mass Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge, MA
with Jennifer Matthews...The Boston Globe reports, "At times as individual as PJ Harvey and Kate Bush, at times as hippie-sensual as Neil Young and Joan Osborne, Matthews covers a lot of ground. She's an appealing chameleon." - she's an eclectic, low rock goddess. Show starts at 10 pm - no cover!

7.16.03
Mmm, summer, mmm, mmm, mmm!
This year's Blueberry Jam out in Worthington was a smashing success. Well, not much smashing actually, but lots of fun--great music, playing by the campfire, and toasted marshmallows to boot! In other non-urgent news, Betty's had herself a wee respite from the glamorous music biz... so with freshly painted toenails and a burgeoning vegetable garden, she is, (how do you say?) "living the good life" and testing her hypothesis that it is possible to gain 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Delicious! So all that girl-freaky aside, there are some shows bubbling up from a deep, oily well somewhere, which you can stick right into your calendars...
Cheers, chipmunks!
Luv,
Betty

Whew! Big couple of weeks ahead...Betty and the band are heading up to Maine to play some shows, see the folks, kiss some babies and then down to NYC to play some shows, see the freaks, and lay some tunes upon the world, whilst challenging our large intestines w/strange road food. Hope to see you out there!

There was so much love in the room on Friday at Cafe Namaste... what a great place to see a show. A bunch of us had Thai food beforehand, and then relaxed in beach chairs, drank some wine, and listened to the fabulous Katie Barbato. What a songwriter! What a voice! Big thanks to Mark and Brian for doing what they do for this music series. Congratulations to rglb drummer Jeff Lien on graduating from Berklee! Check out his new web site - jeffreylien.com

Thanks to the folks who turned out in Northampton at Harry's... Betty was joined by Russell Mofsky on guitar (Quit, Shake) and Pete McLean on dobro. It was a cozy, rainy night - we LOVE western Massachusetts!

Oh, man, yard sale season is right around the corner! This is very exciting news for Miss Betty, who has a serious love of cheap junk and vintage threads. We'll just call it a Boucher family tradition. That and cretons. Hey, cretons lovers, send an email and we shall compare notes. Those of you who are wondering, it's a salty, fatty French Canadian pork spread that's great on crackers. Yum.
There are a bunch of shows coming up in the next couple of weeks...including a show at TOAD in Cambridge, a Women In Rock Boston Showcase at Emily's w/ Jennifer Matthews and Jen Johnson, and a relaxed evening at Cafe Namaste...then, Betty and the fellas travel to Northampton, MA; Portland, ME; and NYC (to play at CB's Gallery). Go to gigs for details!

That's all for the mo...
Luv,
Betty

Thanks to everyone who came to the House of Blues last week! We successfully summoned a stubborn start to spring in New England - if you didn't come to the show, we can't really give away everything we did to bring it on, suffice it to say it was fun ;) !!
We're getting ready for our TOAD show April 30th...and some road trips to Maine and NYC...check out gigs for info on upcoming shows!

In the meantime, let's turn the spotlight on the ridiculously good-lookin' band's drummer, Mr. Jeff Lien... originally from Gillette, WY, Jeff's been playing drums for the past 14 years. Upon graduation from high school, Jeff was accepted with a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, where he is currently in his last semester. At Berklee, Jeffrey studies with jazz drum greats, John Ramsey and Bob Kaufman. Jeff has performed and received top honors at national and international music festivals worldwide, including a recent performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. Jeff's involvement in the field of jazz music has given him the honor of playing among such great artists as Steve Houghton, Frank Mantooth, Bobby Watson, Steve Rochinski, and Bill Watrous. Jeff has also lent his rock, pop, and R&B drumming to singer/songwriters both in studio and live, around the greater New England Area. Jeff currently plays a six piece Pearl Masters Custom Drumset, Zildjian and Sabian Cymbals, DW pedals, and Vator Drumsticks.
Look for more info about Andrew Doolittle and Jehu Goder, coming soon!

Spring is in the air...smell the mud!
Celebrate the longer days by coming to the House of Blues next Wednesday, 4/9 - Betty and the ridiculously good-lookin' band are opening for Emm Gryner, a superb Canadian singer-songwriter and one woman musical tour-de-force. She not only played at Lilith, sang back-up on a Rob Zombie album, but she toured w/ David Bowie (keys & vocals)! How cool is that? She's opened for Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright, and Alanis Morrissette.
We're thrilled to be playing this show, we're ready to reach deeply into our hearts and rock each and every one of you down to your well-groomed toes.
Be sure to buy tickets early, don't miss out!

Texas was great! We played at a crazy roadhouse on Friday night, half-expecting an armadillo to wander through the bar....The Lucky Lounge show on Saturday was super, what a great place, got some new Texas fans...Austin's just chock full of cool bars w/ music. After we played, we had some fantastic Mexican food and mango margaritas, yum! Thanks to those of you who helped us get there, it was a great conference!

3/12/03

Awright, brothers and sisters...it's March and you know what that means... in like a lion and all that bidness, we got 8 more inches of snow here in Boston this afternoon. Unbeleeble. It's been a gorgeous winter here in New England - cold, white, fresh, lovely. People are starting to get a little squirmy and squirrely though. Lisa didn't even bother to blow-dry her hair yesterday. She's given up. Another friend has been noticing that everyone except for him is in love. (Why?!) Betty and Lu were spied burrowing through the racks at Urban Outfitters' bargain basement, looking for just one goddamn cute t-shirt. Russ-L woke up feeling dark and hostile. Argh. Stir crazy. Perhaps it has something to do with our demented "leader" who's gonna be on TV tonight to tell us why he needs for us to go to war. How it's good for the American people, how if we're not with him, we're against him. Betty spotted a hand-made bumper sticker on a van today...it said, "One nation under God, or you can stick it up your *ss!" - that's the spirit!

See Betty and the boys at the Lizard Lounge on Tuesday, 3/11 at 9 pm... and then...off to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas!

2/25/03
Yeeehooo! We had some freaky fun at the CD release/blizzard party. Shake and Jen Johnson tore it up! The ridiculously good-lookin' band was in fine form! Pop tarts and General Foods International coffee were disseminated. The t-shirts are in, and available... for more info, email tshirts@bethboucher.com.
